The Righteous Mother

The Righteous Mother by Eden Phillipotts

"Wretch!" cried the mother to her infant son.
"You hateful little boy, what have you done?
Killed the white butterfly, of all dear things,
And then pulled off his tiny, fairy wings.
To butterflies this garden is their home-
Here do they dance and kiss the flowers and roam
In happiness and plenty, even as you.
God would be angry if He knew!"
And while she spoke these salutary words
Her hat displayed two withered hummimg- birds.

Hmmm, I rather like poetry as it tends to make you ponder and I wonder if a law was passed to ban righteous behaviour would mankind achieve so much more? Probably not!

As RR says, welcome back TF!

Great poem. Would mankind achieve so much more if we banned righteous behaviour?! One can only dream. ;-)

Thamks Random, I'm pondering my next move ....

Claire, Thanks. Yes we MUST always have dreams :-)

Mr NB, It's good to think methinks :-)

Cait, Too kind thank you. Poetry- words for the soul methinks. I tend to read poetry when I'm
in between reading books/novels, blows the cobwebs away.

Woo-hoo, you're back! Yippee. We've missed your ponderings.

Banning righteous behaviour has to be worth a try. You never know.

Keep pondering, m'dear. :)

Ms Wells, I wonder if a ponder is align to sitting on the garden fence? Hmmm, time to jump down and smell the flowers methinks :-)

THERE you are! Welcome back :o)

I do wish I was better at poetry as you can say so much with a few clever, well-chosen words but I fear I need to witter on too much.

Self-righteousness should definitely be banned - preferably before Christmas.

Witter away m'dear :-)
