From Beyond the Grave !

Don't PANIC, I'm not dead! (TF! How do you know? For life might just be a dream!) Feckin' 'eck, I hope I wake up soon ;-)

I went for a wee walk this lunchtime to escape the madness of work. Sometime I have a strong compulsive need to find peace and quiet, so I visited the local pre-Victorian graveyard. It was beautiful. The blossom on the trees were starting to explode like firecrackers into an spectacular display of vibrant pink colours. Birds were singing happily at a high-pitched volume. I didn't take any photographs of the scene, for even the FLIPPANT TF has a sense of respect for those departed.

I walked gently around the pathways between the old unvisited graves and came across these wise words engraved (no pun!) on a lopsided gravestone :-

"I expect to pass through this world but once, therefore any good that I can do or any kindness that I show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again"

I returned to work with a spring in my step and then engaged in a solo mission to SUFFOCATED my colleagues with kindness !

The men in white coats are coming to take me away tomorrow. HA! HA!...... ;-)

That is a great epitaph, but I wonder if you would see any such similar engraving on a modern headstone. Or is that too cynical?
And is the reason I’m not about to be suffocated with kindness by my colleagues down to me being me, or them being them...
(Chopper, don’t answer that!)

Joe, I fear Chopper will not be visiting my comments box for the forseeable future for he is down at the beach walking around dressed up as a feckin' penguin trying to find some inspiration to write ;-) You writer's are a fickle lot methinks ;-) (Guy's I'm being flippant here ;-)

BTW I've killed two collegaues this afternoon with kindness. One more to go the big one. The Boss! Now I'm going to have a beer and think about my epitah :)

TF - Have you ever thought of being a writer? You have a fab way with words, don't you know? x

This post didn't need photos, TF, your words were so visual.

Oh not the penguin thing again! I told Chopper if he wanted inspiration he had to be sanguine, not penguin!
I’ll send him a beer voucher for inspiration, before he gets arrested (again) for attempting to p-p-p pick up another penguin...
I knew I was doing something wrong with the work colleagues. I got the killing right, but left out the ‘with kindness’ bit.

Oh, and I think I resent being called fickle.
Or do I?

AB, LOL! He! He! He! Shit I've laughed so much I've wet me blinkin' knickers. Sod it! The only thing I coud write AB is a flipbook on flippancy. Oh, now there's a thought. Where's my pen? Sod the pen where's my camera. Shit my batteries are flat again :)

Pat, Don't you start ;-) Get back to your writing and go hug those pups of yours for me :)

Joe, Do you think Chopper has gone and done a Reginald Perrin on us ? Don't tell me your're a blinkin' writer! Sweet Jesus, now look what you've made me do take the Lord's name in vain ;-) Hail Mary.....

There was an old man.
Who was so very fickle.
Which got him into a terrible pickle.
But along came TF and gave him a tickle.

That's your lot on the poetry front! Thank God.

I've decided not to report you for killing people with kindness - there are surely worse ways to go?

Words like those do put things in perspective - but only until the next annoyance unfortunately! (Or is that just me? Don't answer that. Well, you can if you want ... nurse!)

Amanda has already said it - what a lovely post.

I love old graveyards. Don't want to live in one just yet though.

Lovely description, glad you enjoyed the peace and are full of the joys of spring !

Cait O'Connor said...

I loved this, made me laugh.

I haunt old graveyards frequently.

TOM FOOLERY said...

Clarkey, But even if these words make us stop and think for a wee moment it has to be a good thing. Right? But, saying that I think I've a major flippancy problem. Nurse!

Lane, You and AB are both so very sweet. Thank you. However, my words only seem to semi-flow when I'm really annoyed about things or if I'm reflecting back on my childhood. I'm not so sure that anyone would want to read about these things. Maybe one day I'll... Maybe not.

Graveyards are a good place to reflect on life methinks :)

Auntiegwen, Thanks m'dear. All I want in life is a wee bit of peace. Should be easy. Wrong :0

Cait, Glad it made you laugh, that was my intention to spread a wee bit of happiness

Hello TF,

Does you think its OK to dig up dead people, and film it? You know that Baldrick bloke and his team Philnco???

What are you giving the boss? People may talk.!

Joe Stein said...

OK, I give up, I was going to write back in verse, but I’m not a poet.
As to whether I’m a writer, opinion is still divided on that one. My publisher thinks so, but given my sales figures, he must be in a minority of one!
Do you think people should right their own epitaphs as per the one in your post, or have others do it for them after they’ve gone?

Shirley Wells said...

I agree with Pat; no pictures needed. A flipbook on flippancy would be great!

I don't think even the dear departed would mind you taking pictures of their resting place. After all, their souls moved on.

Sounds like a lovely walk though.

Life isn't a dream! You are just one small part of a computer game being moved from pillar to post by the whim of a small child.

Hi Joe!

He can write in rhyme you know.

I like "Not dead just sleeping." I think David Blaine might be using that one.

I hope all the graves were topple tested and the 'un-safe' ones securely staked.

Fionnuala said...

Made me think about epitaphs in general - what would yours be TF - there would have to be a photo, no? Fx

TOM FOOLERY said...

Blu, I must confess I've never taken a picure of a dead body in my life. 'cause NO BODY has given me the opportunity. I'm thinking a bit of brain surgery is the best option on the Boss woman. My knives are being sharpened as we speak ;-)

Mr Stein, Are you related to the cook bloke from the TV? I'm going to write my own epitah like Mr Spike Millagan :) I might just buy your book thus increasing your sales by 100%

Shirley, I might just ask you do a guest piece on the old flipbook. I bet you can't flipping wait! ;-)

CJ, thanks it was a lovely stroll not being disturbed by a soul :)

My, my the return of Master Chopper back fron his away day to the beach. It seems like his is agiain riding on a crest of a wave with all his wonderful wordly wit!

I did spy a H & S man with a clipboard, he warned me to be careful as someone coud die if they got to close to the grave. Too late mate. GAME OVER!

F,

A nude life size picture of me with the words

"She was a great lay, may she now rest in Peace" ;-)

That was very moving, and very true. And something we should all try to keep in mind, but don't. These days we are all so caught up in the now, the stress and the me,me,me society we live in. Saying this where we live now people do seem to live by that mantra. When Rchard had his heart attack I was coping until all the neighbours started offering help, then I got teary.

TOM FOOLERY said...

Claire, thanks m'dear. It does sadden me that our Society has lost it's way. Sometimes,I so wish I has magical powers :) TFx

Joe Stein said...

Er, no. Not related to any TV chefs. (Sorry.)
I always thought I’d like as an epitaph the line from the Free song, (no, not ‘All Right Now’ although I think that would work as well) but the one with the line ‘He ain’t walking, now he’s travelling in style’.
Kind of liked that. But I guess I should try to think of something original.

TOM FOOLERY said...

Joe, TF is liking your epitaph very much indeed and you've inspired me to think further on this subject. Merci. TFx

TF, Joe, Chopper...I live in fear of having to sit in the same room with the 3 of you at the same time. I wouldn't know when to laugh, call the shrink or call the cops. Probably all 3 at once.

TOM FOOLERY said...

DJ, LOL! You gotta have a laugh in this life otherwises you can end up going mad! TF! What? You're mad! No, I'm not! Oh, yes you are! ;-) TFx

Dar said...

Then if they're going to take you away, they may as well swing by my place and pick me up too. ... I wonder what being 'killed' by kindness feels like? ... Would you try to get away, or go willingly?

TOM FOOLERY said...

Dar, very satisfying for the killer ;-) Ha! Ha! Tfx
